From Selma to Now

All Souls Unitarian Church (1157 Lexington Ave @ 80th Street, Manhattan) extends an invitation to all members of Westchester UU congregations to attend a program, From Selma to Now, on Tue Mar 10, from 7:00p-10:00p.

From Bell Bechmand and Linda Rousseau, co-chairs of the All Souls Unitarian Church "From Selma to Now" Committee:

We invite you to help the Rev. Richard Leonard mark the 50th Anniversary of his participation in the hisoric March From Selma with the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. on the cusp of the anniversary of the march. The sanctuary doors will open for general admission seating at 6:00pm. Gathering music will begin at 6:15 and the program of tribute will formally begin at 7:00pm. While tickets are without cost, we strongly encourage reservations and there will be a free-will offering during the program. We ask that you reserve a space by emailing us at fromselmatonow@gmail.com, which will help us estimate the preparation and ordering of refreshments.

The evening will begin with a worship service in our sanctuary, including a program of tribute, remembrance and song. The service will be an inspiring experience with words and music from a number of special friends and collaborators (including Peter Yarrow, of Peter, Paul and Mary fame and a variety of choirs who will offer gathering music, church hymns and a sing-along of songs from the 1960s civil rights movement). After the formal tribute, we invite you to join us for a reception downstairs in our large Reidy Friendship Hall.

A ligt supper, desserts and beverages will be offered as well as an opportunity to learn more about the events that took place half a century ago. Adjacent to Friendship Hall is our Gallery which will display memorabilia, artifacts, copies of sermons of Dr. King, slide show and videos from our archives. Expect to feel transported back to the days of this seminal movement!

We look forward to your joining us for this celebration

In faith,
